What are the advantages of using stainless steel?

What are the advantages of using stainless steel?

The use of stainless steel in industrial applications in general has many advantages. In the following article we will study some of them.

Resistance to oxidation

The biggest advantage of steel and the main reason why it is used in industry on a huge scale is its high resistance to oxidation.

From its creation in 1913 until the great discovery that the addition of chromium can change its quality and composition, it managed to have many changes (304, 316, etc.), each of which served many different uses.

Resistance to temperatures

The resistance of stainless steel to high temperatures is known to those who deal with the object, which makes it an ideal metal for welding. More specifically, stainless steel containing more than 18% chromium can withstand temperatures up to 870 °C.

Some types of stainless steel such as 309 or 310 can withstand temperatures up to 1150 °C.

Timeless value

The total life cycle of stainless steel is very long.

This is easily understood if we think about its uses and their lifespan.

Also, a very important factor that complements its timeless value, is its low maintenance cost, which fact makes it a perfectly useful solution.

Hygiene

Stainless steel is the appropriate metal for use where hygiene is a factor of primary importance.

This is why we find it in places such as kitchens, hospitals and wherever else hygiene plays a primary role, since it can be cleaned and sterilized with ease.

Sustainability

Stainless steel is created from 70% scrap metal. It is 100% recyclable in its original form and is one of the categories of metals that do not leave many toxic chemicals during recycling as other materials do. The fact that it can be recycled automatically helps that it doesn't necessarily need the elements we want to create it from scratch.

Also, its ability to be recycled reduces the need for unnecessary use of chemicals in its creation, therefore giving it a partially ecological character. It can be recycled (reused) many times without changing its properties.

Overall, stainless steel is a solution that has an ecological dimension when used correctly, or that helps not to pollute the planet
